Meat Loaf is back in the saddle, recording songs for a new full-length album. At the production reigns is Rob Cavallo, who recently completed duties with the Dave Matthews Band, and has produced hits with Green Day, among other chart rockers. Says Cavallo, "This record's going to shock people in terms of his musical style. It's got all of the drama of a Meat Loaf record, but it's totally contemporary."
Meat Loaf is to receive a "classic song" award for his epic Bat Out Of Hell, it was announced.
Music magazine Q will present the accolade to the rock musician for the nine minute 50 second song as one of the winners of the Q Awards 2008.
Multi-platinum and Grammy-award winning artist Meat Loaf is known for some of the biggest-selling albums of all time as well as the long chart duration of his records.
He has sold more than 70 million albums world-wide.
Meat Loaf said he was "honoured" to receive the award.
Paul Rees, editor in chief of the magazine, said: "There are some songs that transcend such things as time and genre, and Bat Out Of Hell is assuredly one of them."
Singer-actor Meat Loaf has enjoyed the fruits of a successful career: A Grammy. Platinum records. Spoons.
The man behind the "Bat Out of Hell" trilogy, with film credits ranging from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" to "Fight Club," has collected hundreds of spoons from all over the world for almost 40 years. He also collects pulp art, the original paintings used for 1930s-era pulp and true-crime magazines.
But Meat Loaf, whose given name is Michael Lee Aday, seems most animated talking about sports memorabilia.
"I just have a huge collection," he says. ...Full Story

The force is left with Meat Loaf

Meat Loaf
Cloetta Center

A little unexpectedly opened the concert by Meat Loaf bassist Kasim Sulton. Solo on a red stool running the New York born easy listening pale guitar rock pending the principal. Meat Loaf rattling onto the stage and kick-start
in an unprecedented pace.
The music is dangerous and wonderfully close hårdrock style. Not so surprising perhaps when-Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian is included in Comp -band Pearl (named after Meat Loaf's daughter Pearl Aday, which runs in the band).
The 60-year-old rock shows with effect, the force remains. The audience, many of which have crossedr ...Full Story

Music: Concert 'Lisbon Calling' in the Atlantic Pavilion, Saturday
Rock with wrinkles and much power
The option of keeping the public - mandatorily - within the enclosure for the marathon of six hours that animated, on Saturday, the Pavilhão Atlântico in Lisbon, with the spectacle 'Lisbon Calling' has proved, not as inevitably, problematic. In the interval of actions - namely, Marillion, The Stranglers, B-52's, Meat Loaf, in that order - and who is able to reach the food? Queues were long and some people, quite simply, had dropped to dinner and were content with drinking.
Worse was the logistics offered to smokers, for whom a handful of small balconies served as outdoor space - too small ...Full Story

Fairy tales in rock guitar Thunderstorms
Hamburg --
It is a Volte (slight of hand) followed by Meat Loaf on the Stadtpark open-air stage, the war between the sexes, steps the Gemächt Texas Bombast-Rocker. Absolutely stirring are Background singer Patti Russo and Meat Loaf so far into the kitsch-powerful ballads and lively up-tempo duelliert pieces, but now Meat stops to speaks of physical reflex - to the amusement of the audience. 3000 are there, there are older fans following since the early 70s successful ex-actors’ musical talent. And younger, that he dazzled with the comeback album "Bat Out Of Hell II".

REVIEW: HAMBURG, GERMANY
Kieler Nachrichten 7/24/08 Hamburg Review
Meat Loaf at 60 still impressed fans in the Hamburg Stadtpark
Hamburg
(dpa / lno) - Rock-heavyweight Meat Loaf, on Wednesday evening held an
enthusiastic open-air concert in Hamburg's city park. Fit and well-reduced,
the 60-year-old, at the third German concert of his "Casa De Carne Tour
2008" made a great impact, which he had to cancel last year due to the vocal
problems. The Texan attracted 3000 listeners in the Hanseatic city with his
rock tunes like "I'd Do Anything for Love" and "Praying for the End of Time"
for a celebration. In between, he skillfully performed sensitive ballads and
powerful rock songs.
The "meat" invited us to a musical dinner at the Zitadelle, the Berliner could not miss it. The ear, Meat Loaf as part of its "meat" celebrated tour was completely sold out. Even 33 years after "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", the singer lost none of his theatricality. After Berliners tasted the initial difficulties, it was not only "I'd Do Anything For Love" that was delicious.
Meat Loaf thrilled 5000 fans last Saturday. With theathrical performances of his larger-than-life hits but also with a bit of irony the American celebrated the highlights of his career.
Written of by fans and the press countless times, Meat Loaf presented an incredible proof of life at the Amphitheater last Saturday.
The man who calls himself meatloaf ran, rocked and sweated on stage for over two hours and thrilled more than 5000 fans.
At first it appeared to be a rainy evening: A few minutes after support band "Pearl" with Meat Loaf's daughter Pearl Aday and Anthrax-guitarrist Scott Ian took the stage with ...Full Story

MEAT LOAF "ALMOST PARADISE" MOVIE REVIEW
By Tina Mrazik, for associatedcontent.com
Rating: 4.3 of 5
When I was a kid I wanted to be a rock star. Not necessarily a rock musician but a rock star. I'm sure we all did. The glamour of being on stage, being waited on hand and foot, but best of all, and be honest: the money. Big houses, dozens of cars, gold records lining the walls, groupies, etc. Ah yeah, the American Dream. None of us ever really gave a second thought to the rest of the rock and roll life and what it really entails. Even now I love documentaries and biographies of rock musicians, bands, actors, etc. There are a handful of books and documentary movies out there on the subject that would really blow your mind ifth ...Full Story

REVIEW: CO DONEGAL
Fans lap up late Meat Loaf
By Anita Guidera for independent.ie
ROCK legend Meat Loaf delighted fans in Co Donegal last night when he finally took the stage, 24 hours after he was billed to perform.
The 60-year-old Texan refused to play in the specially constructed marquee in seaside Bundoran on Tuesday night because of safety concerns.
\"We just had real security issues inside, like the tent falling down on the audience and the stage falling down, and lights falling down, so yeah, real security issues,\" he told Ocean FM on Tuesday night.
His concerns were echoed by some fans who, ...Full Story
It was better late than never for rock legend Meatloaf as he wowed fans in Bundoran last night with a flawless two-hour set in the sea-front Marquee.
The disappointment of the previous evening's cancellation was forgotten, as was the adverse weather conditions, as music-lovers rocked out to the star's greatest hits.
Concert promoter Seanie McEniff said he was delighted with Meatloaf's performance and the turn-out of fans for the concert.
Wednesday's gig was cancelled after Meatloaf voiced concerns over "security issues" at the Marquee where he was due to perform.
" The last song 'Bat Out Of Hell' drags a tear of nostalgic joy even to this
jaded old eye as the crowd achieve a state of sheer ecstatic abandon,
faithfully bellowing every single word, dragging the jaded but visibly moved
Meat over the finish line.
The greatest Meatloaf tribute band in the world may have a bit of an old
wreck in the driving seat, but he's still Meatloaf. And there's only one
magnificent Meatloaf."
When Meat Loaf was selling records by the multi-million (and packing a great many pounds), few people thought he would be treading the stages a couple of months before his 60th birthday. In recent years, he has suffered a vocal cyst, survived the weirdly Meatish-sounding Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome and fended off accusations of onstage drunkenness. He looks ready to keel over after one number. Then again, Meat has spent the last 33 years looking ready to keel over. "What else am I gonna go?" he asked the Guardian recently, "Run a hotdog stand?"
Even slimmed down, food dominates Meat's agenda. His Casa de Carne tour (Spanish for "house ...Full Story

ROCK star Meat Loaf has donated thousands of pounds to two Tyneside cancer charities.
The entertainer has given £2,500 each to the Toma Fund and to the Maggie’s care centre.
He kept his word by matching the money raised at a charity penalty shoot-out he took part in at St James’s Park last month.
About £5,000 was raised from that event and Meat gave two cheques over to the charities for the same figure before his gig at Castle Howard in Yorkshire at the weekend.
It means both Maggie’s and Toma benefit by £5,000 each in total. “It is great, every penny counts,” said Andrea Thompson, organiser of the Toma Fund.

MUSIC REVIEW: MEAT LOAF IN LIVERPOOL
SOME 30 years have past since Meat Loaf released his Bat Out Of Hell album and to be honest I was expecting the Meat Loaf to be well and truly out of date.
Admittedly ‘Bat out of Hell II: Back into Hell’ was the first CD I bought at the tender age of 13 and despite once donning an oversized T-shirt of a bat rising from the flames of a motorcycle, I wouldn’t consider myself a fan.
But as the Texan megastar took the stage at the Echo Arena, the big man proved he still had the energy and voice that has sold him 70m albums worldwide.
He arrived on stage in a blaze of glory and a Stetson hat giving a good indication of the theatrical fun that was in store.
MEAT LOAF TO MATCH CHARITY PENALTY SHOOT-OUT TOTAL
Meat Loaf has pledged to match the money raised in his charity penalty shoot-out in Newcastle.
Bids amounting to nearly £5,000 were placed in the Chronicle’s auction to take penalties against the American singer, with the proceeds going to two Tyneside cancer charities.

"Well, I don't view myself as a singer, so we can start there," he said. (Notice the pronoun, which avoids The New York Times conundrum of referring to him as Mr. Loaf on second reference.)
"Aretha Franklin is a singer," he continued. "Steve Perry from Journey was a singer. Steven Tyler (of Aerosmith) is a singer. Freddie Mercury (of Queen) was a singer. They're singers. ... It's just like they're born to sing.

The Texan, with a voice as strong as ever, provided an amazingly entertaining show that was big on lights, sound, musicianship, showmanship and - running to almost three hours - was also big on value for money for the capacity audience.
The new, slimmer-cut Loaf may have lost some weight, but this musical heavyweight proved that he hadn't lost his theatricality or his massive appeal.

BIG is Meat Loaf's trademark in just about every respect. Bat Out of Hell remains one of the highest selling albums of all time, with 37 million units shifted worldwide. His movie career includes memorable appearances in blockbusters like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Fight Club. And he's still not sporting anything less than an XXL waistline.
Naturally Meat needs a live show to match, and Bat Out Of Hell III: Seize The Night is just that: a sprawling 150 minute epic, replete with eight-piece band, jets of fire, scantily clad women, and lashings of finger shredding guitar virtuosity.
At its most exuberant the show was some spectacle. ...Full Story

MEAT LOAF’S THREE BAT TOUR PREPARATIONS SET FOR DOCUMENTARY
A theatrical documentary focusing on preparations for Meat Loaf’s current Three Bat Tour is being produced by Atlas Media, one of the most active producers of cable TV nonfiction programming. The documentary is an intimate, behind-the-scenes look detailing on film the production and planning of Meat’s current 18-month worldwide tour in support of Bat Out Of Hell III, the third installment of rock’s greatest epic produced by Desmond Child released on October 31, 2006.
The UK leg of Meat’s Three Bat Tour kicked off at the Manchester MEN arena, Europe’s largest indoor venue, on Thursday, May 10 with Meat performing to nearly 40,000 fans over the course of 2 nights, celebrating songs from his. ...Full Story
Larger than life singer Meat Loaf marked the 30th anniversary of the release of his Bat Out Of Hell masterpiece by returning to the stage four years after announcing his retirement from touring.
He says it was the recording of Bat Out Of Hell III last year that prompted the comeback - so last night's show, part of a UK tour, was dedicated to the three Bat albums.
The first half of the two and a half hour show featured tracks from the original album and its follow-up, released in 1993.
But a surprise awaited the sold-out crowd as the 59-year-old singer bounded on stage for opening song, Paradise By The Dashboard ...Full Story

MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS REVIEW OF MEAT LOAF @ M.E.N. ARENA
You have to credit Meat Loaf with one thing – and that’s dogged resilience.
During his career, the man known to his parents as “Michael” has survived events that would topple mere mortals, including bankruptcy, legal wrangles with Bat Out Of Hell svegali Jim Steinman, collapsing onstage (“Tiiiiimber!”) and – perhaps most remarkably of all – appearing as the bus driver in the Spice Girls movie.
Yet here he is, in front of the teeming hanger-like Arena, giving a brilliantly idiosyncratic and er, sweaty performance. Indeed, just one Meat Loaf gig could supply a Third World village with fresh water for a week – such is the amount of perspiration gushing off him.
Meat Loaf unveils one of Europe’s most highly-anticipated tours of the year with a concert at the region’s largest indoor concert venue, the legendary Manchester MEN arena, on Thursday, May 10, 2007. The THREE BATS tour represents the first live shows Meat Loaf has performed in the UK since his unforgettable Royal Albert Hall show in October of last year, which sold out in 2 hours and further solidified Meat Loaf’s world-standing as one of rock’s most dynamic and powerful live performers.
Meat Loaf will perform to nearly 40,000 fans over the course of 2 nights at Manchester MEN, celebrating songs from his triumphant career with scores of his most fervent fans. The release of his latest album, ...Full Story

Pissed Off and Pushing Petty. . .
In the ’70s, I had Tom Petty opening up for me for awhile. I had Dire Straits opening up for me. I had Eddie Money opening up for me. There’s more: I just can’t remember them all. I was warming up my voice one night and Tom Petty told me to shut up. I guess the walls in the dressing rooms were thin. I’m loud. He was like, “Shut up!” I think at the moment, it pissed me off. Back then -- that would have been early ’77, we were in Cleveland, at the Agora -- I’m surprised I didn’t bust through the wall of the ...Full Story

Said Meat Loaf, “Being able to perform for my fans is the most important thing in the world to me. Over the years, I’ve gone on stage with a broken foot and an arrhythmic heart but only Beethoven could perform without being able to hear. It was devastating having to come off stage in Boca after only three songs but over the years, I’ve reluctantly learned that I have to abide by what the doctors tell me to do.”
Jon Stoll, President of Fantasma Productions in Boca Raton said, “Most artists wouldn’t even have tried but Meat is a special artist who really cares about his fans. We look forward to having him back here on August 30th for a complete show that we know his fans will enjoy.”

Westville, N.S. - From now on, whenever rock star Meat Loaf is on tour, he says will keep a small framed picture of a Nova Scotia teen in his dressing room.
That's what Meat Loaf, best known for his album "Bat Out of Hell," told Matthew Castonguay after they met at his recent concert in Toronto.
Castonguay, a 19-year-old with Down syndrome who made local headlines in January when his vehicle was stolen from his parents' driveway, was thrilled to meet the singer he has idolized since childhood.
When Castonguay gave Meat Loaf his high-school picture backstage, brother Robert Castonguay said the rock star was touched.
Castonguay was mesmerized at his first concert, his older brother said.
"He was wowed at the lights, the sounds. He was wowed just by the experience," said Robert Castonguay, who attended the concert with his brother.
Castonguay received the tickets as a gift after Marc Perry, the sales and promotion representative for EMI, pulled some strings.
Perry wanted to help the teen after he heard of his troubles with his vehicle, which was stolen from his parents' driveway. The car represented independence for Castonguay, and although he couldn't drive it himself, family and friends were happy to chauffeur him around town.
Seated in his living room in Westville, about 15 kilometres southeast of New Glasgow, a week after the concert, Castonguay eagerly showed off his keepsakes from the show - signed posters, T-shirts, pictures.
With the help of his mother, Karen Castonguay, who served as a translator, Castonguay said he was "excited to meet (his idol)." But the soft-spoken teen didn't say much more.
His brother said he was nervous at first, but soon he was joking with the star and making small talk.
"Matthew was a little taken back at first because he didn't know he was actually going to get to meet Meat Loaf. But after that surprise he was just really happy more than anything."
